This category recognises the fact that food and drink now play a key role in enhancing visitor experience and attracting greater footfall.
It seeks to celebrate those who have evolved into something of a ‘destination attraction’ on the strength of their food and drink offering.

Judges will be looking to see that organisations

  • Deliver a consistently impressive food and drink provision and pay attention to local sourcing
  • Have developed a deliberate strategy around enhancing their onsite offering through food and drink (and have a vision for how this may grow in the future)
  •  Have seen revenue and / or footfall increases as a result of their menu and service

This award covers all visitor attractions, including those offering pre-booked tickets, museums, interpretation centres, theme parks, historic houses and castles, zoos etc.

This new category seeks to discover an individual who deserves recognition for their commitment to, or inspiration in, the tourism sector. Aged 30 years or under, the selected winner in this category will stand out for some or all of the following:

  • Having placed a significant emphasis on their own personal and professional development in the tourism industry
  • Their passion and dedication for continually helping a tourism business / organisation to evolve and improve
  • Genuine understanding of the challenges faced, and opportunities provided, for those businesses within the tourism community.

This category is new to the 2012 Tourism Awards and offers an opportunity for businesses, attractions and organisations to gain recognition for their efforts in adopting a proactive approach to marketing – be that through print, online, outdoor, press activity or a mix of all these.

Judges will be looking to see that businesses have

  •  researched and thought through the various marketing platforms that they are using
  •  can evidence that a significant impact has been achieved from their marketing campaign or activity, be it through footfall, profile or profitability
  •  ensured that their marketing activities are communicated internally and adopted within the business
  • taken advantage of the marketing opportunities presented by the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics
  • can evidence that their marketing activities fit strategically within the overall company business plan and within its brand values

Inspired Youth is all about building links between local schools and employers focussing on the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The Youth Development Award is seeking to celebrate those organisations that have a focus on young people as a part of their business strategy.  We are particularly keen to recognise those companies that encourage young people to join their organisation and then actively look to development them throughout their time with the company.

In particular the judges will be looking for companies that;

  • Encourage the recruitment of local young people into their organisation
  • Have an active programme that supports and encourages their learning and development
  • Have a culture of raising aspirations and expanding horizons of young people
  • Actively try to establish links with local schools and colleges to encourage young people into the tourism and hospitality industry
  • Are proud to be working with young minds
